In 1946, "Cec" Ennis and his brother-in-law Bill Peterson began selling
furniture in Boise at the corner of 23rd and Fairview. The Ennis Drexel
Heritage showroom still occupies the partners original building, a converted
1910 livery stable, where Dick Ennis (son and nephew of the original founders)
continues the family business.
In 1962 the store was remodeled. Now, in Boise, there are three different
showrooms - the original (Drexel Heritage / Lexington Showroom) at 23rd
and Fairview, the Bernhardt / Stickley / Henredon Showroom across the
street, the Bassett at Home / Patio Shop on the north side of Fairview, and
Ennis Express, the clearance warehouse on 23rd.
Today, Ennis stores can also be found in Reno, Nevada, and in Richland
and Spokane, Washington. Three generation later, all six of Dick and Mary Lou's
children carry on the family tradition and philosophy.
As Dick Ennis puts it... "there's an Ennis at every store!"
